So, with the cold and flu season, we all sometimes get sick. It’s bound to happen, right? With our busy lives we don’t always take the best care of ourselves. We even might go to the gym, in an attempt to make our muscles strong, but are we doing everything we can to be healthy?

The real question is, when we catch a cold, do we have the “bounce back factor.” Which means, are we as healthy as we can be, so when we get sick, we’re able to recover faster than the average person.

Here are some simply steps to stay healthy and to build the potential for fast recovery, so you can bounce back fast:

Learn to manage stress. Good ways to deal with stress include regular exercise, healthy eating habits, and relaxation, such as meditation. Get enough sleep at night and try to fit in some naps, when possible, to give your body the opportunity to recharge.

Stay in touch with family and friends and get involved in your community. Being social and spending time with others also helps you cope with stress. You get cheers in good times and encouragement and support in bad times, which can improve your overall psychological well-being. It may lengthen your life, because having social networks can help improve memory and cognitive function, and it results in less wear and tear on the body and brain. Social interactions also tend to improve cardiovascular health, since a direct correlation exists between stress and inflammation in arteries, leading to atherosclerosis (clogged arteries). A study published in the Annals of Behavioral Medicine found that people, who discuss difficult times in their lives with a friend by their side, generally had a lower pulse and blood pressure.

Our R.I.B.S. community offers wonderful ways to keep you healthy, so you too can bounce back faster!
